| How can my company get onto your list of "Approved Contractors"? |
At present, the Council does not have a centrally held specific list of Approved Contractors for particular types of works. Should a large scale piece of work be required e.g. over £10,000, we will ordinarily go to the open market and obtain 3 quotes but for for works in excess of £30,000 we will issue a tender notice. For small or minor works, we have a substantial list of Contractors already on our records, approximately 2,500, that we utilise as and when required.
The Council is however now developing it's first Procurement Strategy encompassing how we will procure goods and services in the future in a manner that is not only cost efficient, but also addresses the full life cycle cost of a purchase, sustainability, the engagement of SME's, BME's, Local Businesses and looking at the carbon footprint of our purchases.
We are working closely with the Procurement Agency for Essex (PAE) for guidance and assistance in the setting up of our strategy as well as liaising with the individual local authorities that are members of the PAE. As part of this process, the PAE is shortly going to be launching it's "Supplier Portal" that will give businesses of all sizes the opportunity to view on-line what contracts all Essex Authorities have in place (Brentwood included) and will give the Authorities themselves a place to advertise to businesses as and when potential opportunities arise. The Portal should be going live sometime in April 2007 and each authority will have their own page within it to display their information.
Until such time as our strategy is in place and the Portal is fully up and running, all enquiries concerning the joining of an "Approved List" should be sent (in writing) to Mr C N Lawrence (Finance Officer) for perusal. Whilst no guarantee can be given as to whether we will actually use the contractor, during the current review and rationalisation process of our supplier base, all new potential suppliers enquiries are welcome.
